A Vindication of the rights of Woman
First published in 1792, Wollstonecraft's book attacked the prevailing view of docile, decorative femininity and laid out the principles of emancipation - an equal education for girls and boys, an end to prejudice, and for women to become defined by their profession, not their partner.

The Subjection of Women
From one of the earliest campaigners for women's rights comes a powerful defence of the rights of women. In The Subjection of Women, John Stuart Mill argued passionately for the equality of male and female at a time society separated the genders into separate spheres. He argued that by providing women the same rights as men - in education, politics, and society as a whole - it would provide benefits to society as a whole.
