Catalogue Raisonné”, by José Lopez-Rey, the two volumes published as one by Taschen of Cologne in 1999, in association with the Wildenstein Institute of Paris. Incomparable academic work, re-edited from the 1979, English, and 1981, French, versions of Professor Lopez-Rey’s detailed catalogue of Velázquez’ works, produced by the Bibliotheque des Arts under the patronage of the Wildenstein Foundation. This new full colour presentation, with Foreword by Daniel Wildenstein, will enable the reader better to appreciate Velázquez’ genius and to understand the unconditional admiration accorded him by later artists such as Goya, Manet, Renoir, and more recently, Picasso.
