The treasure of our many-coloured folklore still hides many surprises for us. We know many things — or at least we believe so — but facing the relics of the past we feel the joy of the discovery, the recognition, saying: Here they are! We can feel just this rejoice taking this album into our hands. Mihaly KUtvolgyi (1944) not only handles his cameras perfectly, but he has sharp eyes to notice the beauties, values, usefulness and richness of the world surrounding us. The domestic animals of our lost and forgot past: the Hungarian grey cattle, the scrub horse, the racka sheep, the mangalica swine, the shepherd dogs which drive and guard the herds: the komondor, the kuvasz, the pull, and at last the buffalo and the donkey appear on these pages, all them in their natural, realistic environment. We can also see the relics of the pastoral life of our past, those objects and customs which had been born together and lived together with our pastoral society as a whole. We get a bunch from this colourful life in this book. The camera is modern, but the photos taken by it show us vividly what was the pastoral life like on the Hungarian steppes in the 19th Century.
